JAMMU, Apr 28: One day workshop on Tobacco Control was organized by Education Department at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shastri Nagar, here today. Director School Education, Tushar Kanti Sharma was the chief guest while Chief Education Officer Jammu, Tarseem Lal presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, Director School Education said that the need of hour is to take effective and concrete measures to eradicate the menace of smoking and use of other tobacco products which is the biggest cause of the dreaded cancer disease throughout the world. Chief Education Officer, Tarseem Lal stressed upon the need to organize such events frequently to sensitize masses about the ill effects of tobacco, adding that now restrictions have been imposed on smoking at all public places. Referring to indices, CEO said that over eight lakh people annually die due to serious tobacco related diseases in the country. Coordinator International Union for TB, Dr NC Prabhakar explained the various steps taken by the government to control use of Tobacco and its products and also said that our organization is working with financial support from international Union for TB and Lungs Disease, New Delhi. District Health Officer Jammu, Dr Turki gave power point presentation on ill effects of tobacco consumption. |
