| Senior doctor pays for taking stand against CAPD Minister | | Almost gets killed by police cops | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Apr 28: Life of a senior doctor and Head of Department, Gastroenterology, Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura is under threat since he has raised voice against a Minister in Omar Abdullah led coalition Government after the Minister was found raising an illegal structure on the airport road here. Prof G N Yattoo, Head of Department, Gastroenterology SKIMS-Soura, resident of Friends Enclave, Humhama Heights faced threat from a group of police cops on the pretext that he was ferrying a militant in his vehicle while returning back from the residence of a top notch lawyer of Kashmir valley. The threat came from none other than a senior police officer who asked Dr. Yattoo to thank his stars that he was not fired upon by police cops on the allegations that a militant was accompanying him. The medico who is scared has shot an SOS to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah so that his life is secured. It would be in place to mention here that Dr. Yattoo has filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the alleged illegal construction carried out by Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) Minister, Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan in the Friends Enclave, Humhama Heights on the airport road. "Yesterday I visited my counsel, Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom at his residence in Bulbul Bagh, Barzalla for a consultation & up-dation with regard to my writ petition challenging the illegal encroachment and construction of a building on state land by Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Minister for CAPD & Transport ostensibly in the name of his son Chaudhary Asif Afzal and father Haji Ghulam Ahmad," said Dr. Yattoo. Dr. Yattoo said that on coming out of Mian Qayoom's house he noticed a posse of police accompanied by two men in civvies. He said that initially he suspected some foul being played with him but then dismissed it as a mere suspicion and moved ahead towards his residence. "On my way home I purchased some provisions from Peerbagh and on reaching Humhama crossing I noticed another posse of police who came in the middle of the road with their guns trained at me. I thought that they had an objection to my using the mobile phone as I received a call from a junior doctor before reaching the spot. As I was signaled to stop the vehicle I complied and told them that I am a doctor and Professor & Head. Gastroenterology, SKIMS and was talking to my junior," said Dr. Yattoo. Dr. Yattoo said that hearing that he is a medico the cops had a look at his vehicle JK03-2400 and asked him to move towards Police Post at Humhama. He said that after half an hour he was shell shocked when he asked about the reasons for his detention and harassment. "The in charge of police post responded by asking me to talk to his SDPO which I did. The SDPO told me to go home and leave behind my contact and address details. At 12: 30 pm, I called the SDPO on phone and told him that his case was listed for hearing on April 28. I told him that I suspect a connection between the case and the episode to which he responded by asking me to see him but without giving any time," said Dr. Yattoo. Dr. Yattoo said that at about 2 PM I visited the Police Post again to know the reasons for the incident. He said the SHO told him that he should thank his stars that the Naka party did not open fire otherwise he would have been dead by the time. "I was told that they had received a message stating therein that two men one a militant and the other a civilian on board the vehicle with registration number JK 03-2400, a Santro vehicle with blue colour were moving towards Humhama. They claimed they were ordered to shoot to kill! This was a real shocker to me," said Dr. Yattoo. Dr. Yattoo said that in the evening on April 27 he visited the Police Post again to file an FIR which the police refused to do saying that they would not entertain it and treat it as a mere piece of waste paper. He has appealed the Chief Minister to intervene to save his life and order an impartial probe into the shocking incident that could have cost him his life. |
