Bivek Mathur JAMMU, Apr 28: Startling revelation, made by Department of Higher Education in its website has invited many questions over its failure to motivate students of Jammu region into under graduate courses. As per statistical data shared by the Higher Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir, the student roll for the year 2013-14, in Jammu Division is just 46549 with 45 colleges whereas the same for the Kashmir Division is approximately double as that of Jammu region with 80892 students in 50 colleges of the Kashmir region. According to an education expert, the steep fall in enrollment for Jammu region is because of better courses availability in the neighboring Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and having left with no option to pursue these professional courses in Jammu region, students are moving in strength every year to these states hoping for a better future. The expert further maintained that in Kandi villages of Jammu region, students are quitting studies and migrating to foreign countries like Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia having better avenues and the same will be a threat for the state if not checked timely. As per the details available with Early Times, only three colleges of Jammu region namely GGM Science College Jammu, Women College Parade, Women College Gandhi Nagar Jammu have strength of over 3000 whereas in Kashmir, nine colleges including A. S College Srinagar, GDC Bemina Srinagar, W. C M.A Road Srinagar, W. C Nawakadal Srinagar, GDC Boys Anantnag, Women College Anantnag, GDC Kulgam, GDC Pulwama and GDC Sopore have more than 3000 students. Further, only four colleges in Kashmir province are running with less than 100 students whereas the number is double for Jammu region with eight colleges having less than hundred students. |
