Youth held, SHO denies arrest

BARAMULLA, Apr 28: Prior to Parliamentary Election for (Baramulla) Constituency, Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a 'youth' and seized an autorikshaw carrying anti-election posters in North Kashmir's Bandipora district on Monday.
According to sources on a specific input police and Special Operation Group (SOG) established a check point in the district and detained Abid Farooq, resident of Qazipora.
The youth was in an auto rikshaw and was carrying election boycott posters of Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Geelani. "Police have arrested him as well as seized anti election material and auto," police have registered a case in this incident and investigations have been taken up. The Station House Officer (SHO) Bandipora, Mushtaq Ahmad, however, denied he reports. No arrests have been made, he told Early Times. It is pertinent to mention here that On April 11, before issuance of Parliamentary Election Notification for North Kashmir's (Baramulla) Constituency police had arrested two activists of separatist group 'Hurriyat Conference' for spreading poll boycott campaign posters in Sheeri block of Baramulla district. According to reports the arrested youth are Bashir Ahmad Soleah son of Ghulam Mohammad Soleah of KanliBagh and Ghulam Mohammad Bangi son of Ghulam Ahmad Bangi of Ganaie Hamam old Town in Baramulla.
According to sources the duo are strong supporters of Hurriyat Conference (G), lead by Hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who had called for boycott for both upcoming parliamentary elections and Assembly elections in state. They said, both were arrested on a specific information from the spot while pasting poll boycott posters while police was keeping tight eye on the arrested since poll activities started.For which Police Station Sheeri Baramulla, have registered an FIR 21/2014 under section 132B of Representation of peoples Act, 171c and 171f RPC in this regard". It is important to mention here that Bandipora and Kupwara districts are part of Baramulla constituency for which polls will be held on May 7.Meanwhile according to reports, Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested 60 stone pelters from different parts of north Kashmir Baramulla,Kupwara and Bandipora districts. Reports said that police have also conducting raids in, Kupwara, Baramulla, Hajan, Sumbal, Palhalan and Sopore to apprehend all those stone-pelters who according to police are trouble-makers.
