| Heat wave increases, so does miseries of people | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 4: As the heat wave is engulfing Jammu, the power development department (PDD) has started to increase the unscheduled power cuts in the winter capital. These power cuts are being implemented after darbar moved out of Jammu a week back. Due to heat wave, the temperature in Jammu is touching 40 degree Celsius and at this point of time people need electricity to use coolers, fans and air conditioners but the PDD has started to go for unscheduled power cuts. The worst affected areas are the villages outside Jammu city who can't reach to any PDD official and ask them why they are being victimised. Even few areas in Jammu city are also being penalised for no reason. The PDD transformers at many places have been damaged but the PDD officials are taking time to replace them. Sources in PDD said that since last year various private workshops in a round Jammu city have been demanding the payments of their dues of last many years but the department is not taking them seriously. "Now, when transformers due to huge load have started to get damage, PDD is sending these transformers for repair work in these workshops but to no avail as workshop owners are demanding payment of their dues," sources said. They said that workshop owners have unanimously decided to no repair these transformers till they are being paid the money. The war between PDD and workshop owners is taking toll on common people who are suffering due to the heat wave. The meteorological department has predicted that in upcoming days the heat wave will further increase and temperature is expected to go beyond 45 degree Celsius and if PDD is not able to convince workshop owners to repair the transformers, people will suffer. |
