As SDPO sides with CA&PD Minister, senior medico re-approaches court for security

SRINAGAR, May 4: The Jammu & Kashmir Police has been found siding with influential people as and when the top guns are accused of carrying mischief with the same being complained by citizens who too have respect in the society.
Same situation has emerged in a case wherein it is alleged that a minister in coalition government led by Omar Abdullah is carrying out an illegal construction. The alleged illegal construction has been going on for many months now, but still then the police are looking the other way.
Prof G N Yattoo, Head of Department, Gastroenterology SKIMS-Soura, resident of Friends Enclave, Humhama Heights had filed a complaint that Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD), Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan is carrying out an illegal construction in the Friends Enclave located on the airport road.
As a citizen Prof Yattoo lodged a complaint against the alleged illegal construction with the hope that law will take its own course. However, that did not happen and such he was forced to knock at the doors of the judiciary in order to seek relief. Prof Yattoo filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the alleged illegal construction.
Some days back this medico got a shocker when some cops told him that he should thank his stars that he did not get killed on the airport road. The cops in order to justify their position alleged that Prof Yattoo was ferrying a militant in his car and that they received a message about the same.
This was despite the fact that Prof Yattoo was returning from the residence of his counsel Mian Abdul Qayoom at Barzulla with nobody accompanying him from Barzulla to his residence at Humhama. How come the message was flashed that a militant is in the car of Prof Yattoo, nobody besides the police force can answer this?
Since Prof Yattoo has raised voice against a minister of coalition government his life has come under threat and he is scared. If it was true that he was carrying a militant than he should have been booked and subsequent action should have been taken against him. Instead of that the concerned Sub Divisional Police Officer told him that the minister would not stoop low and resort to illegal construction as alleged by the complainant.
"I visited police post of Humhama on April 29 along with some welfare committee members. The SDPO at the very outset said that a minister cannot stoop so low. I responded that I have not named the minister but have only given you the factual position regarding the dispute about his illegal construction and the events that occurred after I left my counsels home," said Prof Yattoo while sharing views with Early Times.
The medico said that he told the police officer that it is for him to find out the reasons that could have led to his elimination. On this the SDPO replied that as his (Prof Yattoo's) car crossed Hyderpora bye pass flyover the CCTV had captured his vehicle, he said.
Prof Yattoo said that he was amused to hear the argument of SDPO that why did his vehicle look new if it is old one given its registration number. He said that that he told the police officer that since I maintain my vehicle regularly it looks new due to that reason only.
"The SDPO said the information of CCTV capture received by him as message has got deleted from his phone. I have moved an application before the High Court regarding the episode that could have ended with my death. An application has also been moved with Chief Judicial Magistrate, Budgam," said Prof. Yattoo.
