| JBA calls for Jammu Bandh today | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 4: Jammu Bar Association has called for Jammu Bandh tomorrow to protest against the failure of the government, and police department to suspend three police officials involved in manhandling a lawyer. The decision was taken in a joint Press Conference of various student organizations, transport associations as well as political parties including the BJP, and PDP who extended their support of Jammu bandh call. "Our call for tomorrow's Jammu Bandh is final as we have not received any copy of order regarding suspension of cops, who misbehaved and thrashed our colleague in full public view," a BAJ leader said. Pertinent to mention here that BAJ strike has entered the 14th consecutive day and the work in the Courts also remained suspended. Though verbal orders have been issued but not in 'black and white,' he added.Lawyers on April 17 went on strike and also staged protest and took out protest rallies against an alleged manhandling of one of their colleagues namely Harshvardhan Gupta by the cops in Nanak Nagar area for not carrying complete documents of his scooty. The BAJ bandh call however has been supported by organizations including political and social. Those present in included Ashok Khajuria MLA, Kavinder Gupta Ex. Mayor, Thakur Hari Singh Senior Vice President and Vinod Sharma general Secy. Congress Hussain Ali Wafa Gen. Secy. PDP, HC Jalmaria gen. Secy and YV Sharma (President, CCI), Ashok Gupta (Shiv Sena). Meanwhile Transporters as well as NSUI Jammu University unit have supported the cause of BAJ and have extended their open support to the Bar Association Jammu (BAJ). In an emergency meeting of members of Oil Tanker Transporters' Welfare Committee (J & K), the committee members have unanimously agreed to offer their support to Bar Association of Jammu. "We are with people of legal fraternity who are on streets to seek justice for citizens, this is not an isolated case of police atrocities against innocent citizens and we welcome that this time the Jammu Bar is spearheading this fight for justice" Jammu University NSUI President Nitin Bakshi also declared that the NSUI is openly supporting the BAJ call as according to him, it has become a concern for the general public as well to roam openly in the democratic set up fearing similar attacks by the Police personnel. |
