| PDP has become first choice of people: Mehbooba | | 'NC fails to convince people by its lies, concocted stories' | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 4: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti has said the National Conference has failed to rake up bogus issues and people are instead making their decision in the election on its performance and its traditional role against the interests of Kashmir. Addressing a number of public meetings in Tanmarag segment of Baramulla parliamentary constituency she said the NC had tried to raise issues which had no relevance to the problems of Jammu & Kashmir but it has miserably failed on the ground to convince the people by its lies and concocted stories. Mehbooba said NC had tried to mislead the people by its false propaganda against the PDP as it has nothing to show by way of performance to win over the electorate. She said the people know what their real issues are and they can't be deceived anymore by the murky politics which the NC leadership has been playing in Kashmir from many decades now. She said now mind of people has changed and the PDP has become their first choice. On the occasion senior PDP leader and MLA Pahalgam, Rafi Ahmad Mir; zonal president, Abdul Aziz Dar; local leaders, Mohammad Abbas Wani, Abdul Hamid, Shabir Ahmad and others were also present. She said everyone knows it is the NC which had trucked with the BJP in 1996 only to get junior ministry job for Omar Abdullah. And without any positive issues in their hands the NC leadership went all guns blazing against the PDP predicting its future course of action but everything went against them as the people have clearly rejected them both in South and Central Kashmir. She said, "In 1996 it is Dr Farooq Abdullah who went on for an alliance with the BJP for just getting his son a junior minister's job.
During that period the Abdullahs handed over seven feasible power projects to the NHPC without getting anything substantial for the state. They started the STF, Ikhwan and got POTA into the state. Blanket ban on government jobs, Shahtoos was enforced. Opening and up-gradation of new schools were also banned." She said innumerable scandals have taken place during the present regime.
There are serious charges of corruption against the highest political authorities of the state including the chief minister, Omar Abdullah, Dr Farooq and many ministers.
Mehbooba said there is a strong mood prevailing on the ground in favor of the PDP and people are now fed up with the ruling party which has never been serious to address their issues. |
