| Army, SOG raid Bandipora forests amid alert in North Kashmir | | | Srinagar, May 4: Army and police today recovered a cache of arms and ammunition while conducting searches in the forest area of Bandipora in north Kashmir on Sunday. Army's Srinagar based defence spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS said that based on a specific intelligence input, army's 14 RR and SOG raided at Gubrinala forest area of Erin Bowl of district Bandipora. "During the searches a cache of arms and ammunition which included 08 Chinese pistols, 08 magazines and 32 pistol rounds", the spokesman said. Pertinently, forces have sounded an alert across north Kashmir ahead of polls scheduled to be held on May 7. Sources said that security has been put on maximum alert in north Kashmir, ahead of Lok Sabha elections. Army, sources said, has also intensified patrolling in many volatile parts of north Kashmir amid apprehensions that the militants might try to disrupt the elections. The security, sources had said, has been beefed in Lolab Valley, where army had already started search operations in the forest areas.
