Gandhinagar, May 14: BJP president Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday that top leaders would decide on party patriarch LK Advani's role in the new government if the NDA comes to power at the Centre.
Rajnath was talking to reporters here just before his meeting with BJP's PM candidate and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi. Other party leaders, Arun Jaitley and Nitin Gadkari are also meeting Modi along with Rajnath.
"We will decide after discussing with all the top party leaders," he said on being asked as to what would Advani's role be in the Modi-led government.
He also expressed confidence that the BJP would be able to get a clear majority. However, he added that till the results were officially out, he did not want to say much.
The last day of voting for the Lok Sabha polls was on May 12 and counting of votes is scheduled for May 16.
Most of the exit polls have indicated that the BJP will emerge as the largest party and the NDA will be in a position to form the government.
Meanwhile, earlier today the BJP top brass went into a huddle in the national capital to discuss the possibility of the party forming the government at the Centre and changes in the organisation ahead of counting of votes on May 16. They discussed the possibility of seeking the support of some allies including the BJD, AIADMK and NCP, PTI reported. Senior BJP leaders held a series of meetings in the capital since morning with Rajnath Singh meeting Sushma Swaraj at her residence here, before she flew to Bhopal. Gadkari also met her today. The meeting lasted around half an hour. Gadkari is playing an active role in negotiating with groups within the party. He had yesterday met Advani amid speculation about his role in the next government. Jaitley and Amit Shah also held a meeting at the former's residence to discuss the situation arising out of exit poll results.
