Challenge before Jammu, Ladakhi leadership
Minorities in J&K are in danger
5/14/2014 11:56:12 PM
Rustam
JAMMU, May 14: It's time for the Jammu and Ladakhi leadership and the people of these two regions, especially those belonging to the minority communities, including Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh as well as the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, to prepare themselves without losing a single movement for a full-scale movement against the Kashmir-based National Conference (NC) leadership. It has become imperative. To remain dormant and devoid of any political activity any longer would be to enable the NC leadership to impose their sectarian solution on the minorities and get Jammu and Kashmir out of India. Why should the minorities and their leadership in Jammu and Ladakh launch a full-scale campaign against the NC leadership and others of its ilk in the Kashmir valley? Why because the NC working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday demanded a solution to the so-called Kashmir problem that is acceptable to the Muslims alone. Addressing a seminar titled "Discussion between India and Pakistan on J&K - A Historical Perspective", which was organized by Institute of Kashmir Studies at Kashmir University, Omar Abdullah said: "A solution which will satisfy the aspirations of the majority of the people of Jammu and Kashmir (read Muslims) is the only way out. You cannot give any solution which will be acceptable to each and every citizen of the State. You have to work out a solution which will satisfy the aspirations of the majority of the people. Though such a solution is difficult to sell yet this is only way out in this regard". It was clear from what he said that he wants to force down the throat of the minorities in the state with his pernicious solution.
Omar Abdullah not only demanded a communal solution to the so-called Kashmir problem, but also urged the yet-to-be-formed new Government in Delhi to cultivate Pakistan. "Hope the new Government in New Delhi will not allow the dialogue process to die…It is most important that the new Government taking office in New Delhi carries forward the process of dialogue with Pakistan…The Kashmir issue is a long-pending problem and has political genesis which requires a political resolution. Kashmir issue has political genesis and it requires a political resolution. There is a need for continuing the ongoing back channel dialogue between India and Pakistan to move forward on addressing the long-pending issue which has consumed generations," he, among other things, also said. His father Farooq Abdullah, who also spoke, also talked about the so-called Kashmir problem and criticized New Delhi for its stand on Jammu and Kashmir.
It was clear from what Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah said that their whole approach towards the issues facing the state is patently communal. It's sad that the Congress has always given its overt and covert support to the NC. It is also disheartening that the State Governor has also not come up to the expectations of the people. Everything has happened under his nose, but he remained unmoved. It is clear that neither the NC nor the Congress would reform itself and, hence, the time for the nationalist constituency to stand up and take on the NC leadership.
