JAMMU, May 14: Marred by a major technical snag caused due to the reckless digging by PHE Department, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) mobile services remained snapped throughout the day in the winter capital of the state. The snag forced the clueless subscribers to move around in the city in 'disconnected' mode.
The BSNL mobile services hit a road block after PHE men involved in digging at Mandir Morh, Roop Nagar inadvertently cut the Optical Fibre Cables (OFC). The mobile services which got disconnected at around 11:00 AM could not be restored till late this evening.
As the network failed completely, thousands of BSNL's Cellphone users came across lot of inconveniences throughout the day as they faced difficulties in making or receiving the calls and also in using SMS and Whats App services.
Most of the BSNL's mobile service users complained that the network collapsed around 10:30 AM. However, the BSNL officials maintained that the services got disrupted at around 11:00 AM only and their men and machinery are on job to rectify the technical snag hopefully by late evening.
"Initially I thought it to be network congestion but when the connectivity problem persisted for hours together then only I came to know that the services are hit by some technical snag. I was unable to call my family for the entire day back home on the landline phone and other members who too have BSNL mobile connections," said Ramesh Khajuria of Roop Nagar.
Another BSNL cellular phone customer Neeraj Sharma said, "At first I assumed something was wrong with the handset only to later discover that there was trouble with the network of BSNL. After checking my other connection of Airtel which was flashing full signal, I understood that there is some technical fault."
"I called up my friends to cross check but unable to connect. Somehow I managed to connect with my friends who informed that BSNL phones in outer Jammu were working but in old city many were found switched off. They told me that BSNL authorities upon contacted confirmed that BSNL network was not working since 11:00 AM," he added.
These two were not the only sufferers but majority in old city were complaining network problem that has affected the major parts of the old city.
Meanwhile, much to the relief of thousands of BSNL mobile subscribers the network was restored late in the evening. GMTD Jammu, GM mobile and other senior officers of BSNL monitored the restoration of OFC.
The mobile phone services were affected in Kachi Chawni, Janipur, Bantalab areas of city and its peripheries like Akhnoor, Samba, Billawar, RS Pura, Rajouri and Poonch.
It may be recalled that on December 3 last year the prepaid outgoing services remained affected for over eight hours in state due to a fault at Nodal Centre Chandigarh putting the customers to a lot of trouble.
Following the fault in Intelligent Network (IN) at Nodal Chandigarh the functioning of outgoing prepaid services in eight Northern States including Jammu & Kashmir got affected.
