| Leaders go into 'hibernation', Ministers yet to resume official work | | Exit polls effect: Demoralization in Congress camp | | ET Report JAMMU, May 14: Exit polls having painted a grim picture for Congress, the state unit of party has gone into huddles with senior leaders and key functionaries in a state of hibernation for the last two days. There is no word, not to speak of any statement or reaction from any quarter over marathon discussions on post poll political anatomy. While for other parties it is business as usual in terms of resuming their normal political activities, things are almost stagnant for the state unit of Congress where no one knows the whereabouts of each other. Sources said after having spent few days in New Delhi, J&K PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today returned to Srinagar but kept off from any activity nor did he meet any leader of the party. The senior leaders of Congress in Kashmir like Abdul Gani Vakil, Muzaffar Parray, GN Monga who actually roared and played robust role until a week ago for LS polls not only for their own party but also in support of ally NC too, have gone into a sort of hiding with no uttering over what is being projected in exit polls. Though there is official direction from the high command not to give any reaction over exit poll figures, the Congress leaders are not even pushing themselves into routine working mode, sources said adding that demoralization in the Congress camp is to such an extent that no one is ready to set the ball rolling for normal functioning of state unit which is important on account of ensuing Assembly elections. If things are stagnant in the Kashmir, so is the plight of leadership in Jammu where mercury levels and temperament of senior leaders are seen in inverse proportions. The leaders and Ministers have gone into huddles in their own constituencies and waiting for official results to come, sources said adding that a couple of Ministers who matter in the hierarchy have in private conversations conceded defeat of party candidates. However, some of them are still hopeful for results on Doda-Udhampur seat and look upon some miracle to salvage the image of both the party as well as the stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad. Even though the polls are over, the Ministers are still camping in Jammu and yet to resume their official work in civil secretariat at Srinagar, sources further added. The office headquarters at Shahidi Chowk remains open but it presents as always a deserted look with presence of a few office staff who are also seen in utter demoralized mood. Other key functionaries of the party have since remained off from the routine party activity, sources said it is becoming hard and unpalatable for the entire unit concede unprecedented defeat for the party as projected by the exit polls. |
