KUPWARA, May 14: Thousands of devotees including women and children from different parts of valley on Wednesday thronged the shrine of popular saint Zatishah Wali (RA) at Shahwali Muqam in Drugmulla village of Kupwara district. They offered special prayers seeking blessings of Almighty God. The three-day annual Urs began yesterday. Night-long prayers are also held in the shrine and 'Tabrokat' (relics) of the saint also put on the display for the devotees. The religious preachers in their sermons threw light on the religious and social contributions of the saint during his lifetime. They urged people to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and refrain from evil in all situations. "The devotees continue to visit the shrine since this morning. Night-long prayers will be held and Tabrokat of the revered saint put on display around 10 PM. For the convenience of devotees, we have made all necessary arrangements like drinking water and health care. A group of village elders are assisting the shrine committee," said a member of shrine committee. "For past several years, I have been visiting the shrine to seek forgiveness and blessings from Almighty. I have a firm faith in saint, his teachings and the sacred shrine. Offering prayers here gives eternal peace," said Taja Begum, 67, resident of Trehgam in Kupwara district. The Urs provides business avenues to many. Locals residents erect make shift shops outside the premises of the shrine. "I did a good business today. Juices and softies are in a good demand due to the hot weather conditions. The rush of devotees continues to swell and many are expected to pay obeisance at the shrine tomorrow," said Akther Ahmad, 34, from Kupwara. Devotees were seen lined up in long queues near the pond to collect its scared waters. "The sacred waters are very effective to cure skin disorders and other diseases. In hot summers, the water level in major stream and rivers declines considerably but the level constantly increases in the pond through-out the year," said Shabir Ahmad from Handwara. |
