| Hamid Choudhary seeks rehabilitation of evicted Gol Gujral families | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 14: People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Hamid Choudhary today asked state government to immediately formulate a rehabilitation plan for those 71 families who have been evicted from Gole Gujral area by Jammu Development Authority (JDA). The division bench of the state high court, he said had also asked the government to devise a remedial policy so that affected families don't suffer which government must listen to immediately. Choudhary Hamid said that since 35 kanals of land out of Khasra No.746 in Gole Gujral area has been identified for providing temporary shelter to the evicted persons including nomad families, the government must not cause any delay and allow the affected families to camp there immediately. Meantime, the government must not only formulate a rehabilitation policy but also identify the black sheep who allow people to settle on state lands only to create chaos during later stages. He said that many children are unable to attend to their classes while women are left with no place to cook their daily meal in open. Choudhary said that the decision taken in haste has not only damaged property of nomad families but also affected their livestock, some of which have even perished. The worst was when these families were made to suffer in scorching heat because their water and electricity connections were cut before the drive. Had the authorities rehabilitated these families first such a situation would not have emerged at all, he said adding that government should compensate the loss suffered by nomads. |
