Middle aged attempts rape on minor
Sexual crimes on alarming rise

BARAMULLA, June 4: A middle aged man was arrested in Tangmarg area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district, after he allegedly tried to rape the teenage daughter of his tenant on Wednesday.
According to the police official, "Abdul Qayoom Mir, who is in his forties, tried to rape 15-year-old daughter of Ghulam Nabi Chopan in Tangmarg's Karhama area.
He said Mir tried to rape the girl when her parents were away. "Her parents had to take their son to a doctor and the girl was alone when the accused barged in her room and tried to rape her," Station House Officer (SHO) Tangmarg Ayaz Geelani said. But the girl raised an alarm and her parents and neighbors reached the house and Mir fled. Her parents were near their rented accommodation when Mir tried to rape the girl. Mir had escaped from the scene but we managed to arrest him," the official said.
He said a case has been registered under FIR no 27-2014 U/S 452,376,511 in police station Kunzar.
The incident has raised serious concern over incidents of crime across valley recently.
As per data available, during the year 2012, 24608 cases were registered under various heads of crime in the state. In 2012, at least 63 rapes were reported in the state.
According to social analysts, "women have been the victims of suppression throughout the history the level of exploitation have never been as high as in today's world."
Analyst said, Women become pregnant in their teenage, they have to abort in big numbers, they are being turned into prostitutes and pornographic actresses and their security is compromised with unimaginable rates of rapes on an anonymity condition he said.
He said "Still they claim to be the champions of women. He explained how Islam saves womankind from insecurity and exploitation and gives them the right place on family and society.
He suggested that a debate should be conducted how women of 20-40 age groups can pursue their career without adversely affecting their families.
Need of the hour is to make strict laws which can protect woman's chastity and will let her feel secure in and out of her home, as the Cases of sexual assault in India have been increasing.
