Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 4: In first signs of Dr Farooq Abdullah taking charge of affairs in National Conference, the senior Abdullah has started clipping wings of Omar and his coterie. In the first such move he pruned down political standing of NC Kashmir provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, by appointing Ali Mohammad Sagar as the party's general secretary. Wani was picked and appointed by Omar Abdullah, in organistaion restructuring along with Devender Rana for the Jammu region. Wani was also projected as the party's face for the Srinagar district. But after the unimaginable defeat of Dr Farooq Abdullah, his first ever, from Srinagar, considered as party's bastion, it showed that a wrong perception had been built by Omar that his party and his confidants were well grounded and connected to the people. Shocked by this defeat, Dr Farooq decided to clip the wings of the Omar's coterie which had apparently sidelined the seniors in the party. Sagar, along with Rather were the point persons of the Dr Farooq and had been not only winning their seats but were also the faces of the party. NC sources said both were completely ignored to the extent that stories were planted against Rather in the media to malign him. Sagar was also not given much political weight. However after results, it proved that Omar and his coterie were totally disconnected. It's for this reason that Sagar has connection across the spectrum and knows the pulse of the Kashmiri people. Sagar is now likely to call the shots in the organizational set up especially in the Kashmir region, which is the base of the party setting it very clear that Wani would not be in scheme of the things of the party anymore. "The next move would be in the Jammu region and it's most likely that Devender Rana would also meet the same fate as his friend and colleague, had met in Srinagar, who was also close to the Omar Abdullah," said a senior NC leader. |
