JAMMU, June 4: Finally, the state Government has ordered an enquiry and sought factual report from Managing Director, JK Cement, over huge embezzlement in purchase of polypropylene bags by the corporation.
Sources told Early Times that the Managing Director JK Cement has been asked by the Industry and Commerce department to furnish factual report over recently surfaced embezzlement in purchase of polypropylene bags.
It is pertinent to mention here that on April 26, Early Times carried news item 'Already in financial quagmire, JK Cements buys polypropylene bags at exorbitant rates’. Corporation suffers loss of Rs 93 lacs. "Smelling something fishy in matter of exorbitant rates of bags, the FC has initiated fact finding enquiry", sources said, adding that further action would be taken after submission of MD's reply.
"It is difficult to proceed further, since the reply sought by Industry and Commerce department is awaited", sources maintained.
Astonishingly, JK Cements had placed order to purchase bags from a factory outside the state at exorbitant rates. The corporation had earlier ordered to purchase 30 lac bags at a price of Rs 9.27 per bags (Rs 278.10 lacs) against which 33 percent supply was made by a firm namely Gopinath Enterprises Ahmedabad. Remaining supply was in pipe line, in the meantime MD of corporation allowed purchase of 40 lac bags from a supplier namely M/S Bihar Raffia at a rate of Rs 10.81 per bag. Previous supplier M/S Gopinath Enterprises had been asked to stop the supply. Reportedly the amount (Rs 93 lacs) was to be shared by the MD and his few trusted lieutenants.
