Srinagar, June 4: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Bashir Ahmad Mir and youth leader, Syed Irfan Naqshbandi have expressed concern over the prevailing irrigation water crisis in Kangan constituency. In a statement the leaders said due to the non-serious attitude of the government the paddy farmers are badly affected by the water shortage. They said lack of water in two important water canals in the area-Baba canal and Hyder canal- has complicated the problem further. The leaders said the problem arose as the necessary annual maintenance work in these canals, which almost cater to the needs of the whole constituency, was not done this year. "The waste and silt is yet to be removed from the water channels which speak loud about the callousness of the government," they added. The leaders demanded that the government should take necessary steps to ensure sufficient irrigation waters to the farmers. |
