KUPWARA, June 5: Lolab valley, which is locally known as 'Wadi-e-Lolab' is not only known for its orchards, springs, lake, and lush rice fields. But is also historically rich in its traditions, culture, the visitors can easily reach to this place by road. Travelers can stay in government huts. Ab Rashid Khatana from Kalaroosa says, "In Kalaroosa there is a place called Satbaran Tunnel which is believed to connect Kashmir with the erstwhile USSR. According to him our ancestors used to visit this place and we heard it from them. "Condition of these roads is worst and it has added miseries to our lives, in the night hours we have to pay Rs 1500 from Kalaroosa to Kupwara in case of an emergency, as we don't have proper transport facility, it would be good for one and all especially for tourists if the roads will be in a good condition, he said It is worthwhile to mention here that Poets like to refer Lolab as "land of love and beauty" it is located at a distance of 130 kms from Srinagar in Kupwara district. Lolab is a combination of three valleys, Brunai, Kalaroos and Potnai valley. There are beautiful Nagmarg meadows, which separate Lolab from other districts. The headquarters of Lolab is situated at Sogam. It is said that Sogam was very densely populated a long time ago, when Kashmir valley was still a lake called "Satisar". Travelers visit a spring called Lavnag which can be found nearby. The spring is three feet deep and has crystal clear water. Gauri spring is another major spring in the area. Government has taken several steps to maintain Lolab Valley to its pristine beauty. It is important to mention here that Wadi-e- Lolab has other adjoining areas which can attract the tourists from across the world are Chandigam, Wanidaroussa ,Dardpora and Warnou, and the months of June and July are environmentally and ecologically good for picnic also. |
