SRINAGAR, June 5: What could turn out to be a massive scandal in Radio Kashmir after theft of furniture worth lakhs and liability of more than a crore has surfaced following the action of station Director to seek intervention of higher ups of All India Radio to curb the loot in the station.
According to sources, working within the station Premises of Radio Kashmir, out of 40 branded chairs which were missing, around 20 chairs each costing around Rs 3000 which were missing from the conference hall next to the office of the station Director were recovered from the possession of one close relative of a former official today only after station Director pressurized one concerned official to bring back the furniture missing from conference hall and also sought intervention of higher ups of All India Radio in the matter.
Sources said a group of officials presently posted in Radio Kashmir in nexus with one former highly placed official have gifted branded furniture worth lakhs which include table and chairs from different compartments of Radio Kashmir to the relatives of one former official and have also managed to sell furniture worth lakhs in black market over the years. "Not only furniture worth lakhs is missing but also Station accounts reveal liability of one crore ten lakh rupees of the year 2013 and if we calculate accounts of just few previous years, the amount of liability can turn out crores of rupees and though everybody knows the people behind all such bunglings carried out during previous years yet nobody comes on front to expose and seek action against them," sources said.
Wishing anonymity, one top brass official of Radio Kashmir informed Early Times that liability one crore and ten lakh rupees is in the Programming section in which one former official and some employees presently posted have engaged dozens of blue eyed people who are given 29 working days with rupees 1000 per day without having proper qualification and talent and such people are always burden on financial grants sanctioned for the station.
When contacted, station Director, Rukhsana Jabeen said that only after her intervention out of around 20 chairs which were missing from the conference hall which is next to her office, 15 were recovered and still lot of furniture is missing from other sections of the station.
"I have written to my higher ups about the matter, sought inquiry to find out reasons behind liability of one crore, missing furniture and I have asked for more funds to pay up the liability so that work schedule of the station does not suffer any more," said station Director Radio Kashmir, Rukhsana Jabeen.
Pertinently Radio Kashmir was recently in news for engaging blue eyed non professionals and swindling of funds in the name of programmes aired over the years, however due to political intervention no action was taken against anybody so far.
