| Despite rout, Farooq fails to revamp party units | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 5: As the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) President, Farooq Abdullah brought some changes in the party and gave prime posts to his close aides, he couldn't force his decision on Jammu unit of the party. Abdullah even can't remove Omar's close aides , Nasir Aslam Wani from provincial president's post of Kashmir province. Sources in National Conference said that Farooq wanted to bring change in Jammu unit of the party where NC working president, Omar Abdullah has posted his close aide as provincial president, who is taking each and every decision with respect to the Jammu province. "There was strong resentment against NC provincial president Jammu, Devender Singh Rana in the party and Farooq Abdullah wanted to replace him with some other senior leader but Omar resisted and didn't allow any changes," sources added. Omar and his men from Jammu were of the opinion that NC was not contesting on any Lok Sabha seat from Jammu region and there was no chance for NC leaders of Jammu to show their metal. "Without giving them chance to show their performance and prove their metal, it would be unfair to replace them," sources said. Sources said that there were talks that Farooq wanted to bring his most trusted person from Jammu, who is a senior Minister in the Government, against Rana's place but Omar didn't agree to change the leadership at a time when Assembly elections are round the corner. "Thus, Farooq succumbed to the pressure from Chief Minister and Jammu unit of the party and couldn't make any changes," sources added. Even there was a strong opinion in Jammu unit that top leadership was responsible for poll debacle in Kashmir valley and if they are staying on their posts, there is no point making changes on other posts. |
