7 held for attack on Congress worker's house at Seelo

BARAMULLA, June 21: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested seven persons including six brothers in connection with an attack on Congress activist's house that left one dead and another injured at Seeloo Sopore in North KashmirsBaramulla district Saturday
According to Official sources seven persons have been arrested during the intervening night of June 20-21 from Mundgi area of Sopore in connection with the attack.
Sources identified the arrested persons as Lateef Ahmad Khan son of GhulamMouhidin Khan and six brothers Mehraj-ud-Din Khan alias Raja Khan, Firdous Ahmad, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Abid Ahmad, Ishfaq Ahmad and Ayoub Ahmad sons of Sardar Khan, all residents of TakikhanMundgiSopore.
Around 9:00 pm on Friday evening Nazir Ahmad Naikoo son of Khazir Mohammad was killed and his cousin brother Shabir Ahmad Naikoo injured when the masked gunmen barged inside the house and fired indiscriminately.
Meanwhile, confirming the arrests, Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir, Ghulam Hassan Bhat said that a Pakistani and as well as a local militant were involved in the attack by the family of Mehraj-ud-Din Khan of MundgiSopore.
DIG said that in February last year, a militant Mohammad Shafi of Zaloora was killed near the residence of Khazir Mohammad Naikoo and the attackers tried to pass-off the incident as the revenge which is actually not the case.
"There was a dispute between the two families and the incident related to it only," DIG added.
According to sources that on Friday evening unknown gunmen barged inside a residential house of a Congress worker Khazir Mohammad Naikoo at around 9:05 p.m and opened fire upon the family members.
In the firing incident, Khazir Mohammad Naikoo's son Nazir Ahmad and his cousin brother Shabir Ahmad, a student, suffered critical injuries, the injured were immediately shifted to sub-district hospital where Nazir Ahmad Naikoo, succumbed to injuries.
However, Shabir Ahmad was referred to Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) in Soura Srinagar in a critical conditions, He said.
According to sources, soon after the incident, army's 22 RR and police's Special Operation Group (SOG) rushed to the spot, adding that the joint team of forces cordoned off the whole area and launched the searches to nab the assailants.
Meanwhile it is pertinent to mention here that a 60-year-old Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant Mohammad Shafi Sheikh was killed near Khazir's residence on February 16 last year.
