| Desperate NC seeks alliance with BJP | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 21: The National Conference is holding parleys with the senior leadership of the BJP for a possible alliance. The senior leadership of the NC which has good personal relations with a section of the BJP leadership is trying for this alliance. According to sources, the senior leadership of the NC, most importantly Dr Farooq Abdullah, is playing a key role in it. The party wants to close up ties with the Modi led Government to ensure that it would not have any confrontational attitude with the Central Government and would not oppose the plans of the Modi Government with respect to the J&K. An indication of it was given when the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in N Delhi. Omar was one of the first CMs, outside the fold of NDA, to call on the PM. "The meeting was an attempt to send the message that he is open to hold business with the Modi Government, with a subaltern message that he wants the relation to nurture and continue for long," said a senior Home Ministry official. The sources said NC has realized that it is almost end of the road of an alliance with the Congress. The party also knows that its seat share is likely to fall in the Valley and also in the Jammu. The most important calculation for the NC is that having an alliance with the ruling party at the Centre is in the interest of the party and it has done so many times in the past. The NC is also desperately trying so as it knows that PDP had good relations with the Vajpayee led Government and it had not been highly critical of the Narendra Modi, the manner in which Omar had been. Sources said that even though the BJP had given cold shoulder till now but has also hinted that a possibility could be explored but for that NC has to drop Omar Abdullah from the scheme of the things. |
