| Puncturing JKLF's anti-India quit Kashmir movement | | Positive step | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 21: It is a positive development that the Jammu and Kashmir Government and its police have acted on time and foiled the launch of the anti-India quit Kashmir movement, scheduled to start on June 23. It was in the wake of the May 27 statement of MoS in the PMO that the BJP-led Government had started the process to abrogate Article 370 and that the discussions had started with the stakeholders to remove this temporary provision from the Indian statute book that the self-styled chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and murderer Yasin Malik had announced that he would unleash quit Kashmir movement across the Kashmir valley on June 23 to educate public opinion about what he called the evil designs the BJP and the RSS and defeat their move aimed at repealing Article 370 under which the state enjoys a separate status. The RSS and the BJP observe June 23 every year as martyr's day and celebrate it as "merger of Jammu Kashmir with India". It was on this day in 1953 that the founder of Jana Sangh, Dr Shyama Parsad Mookerjee, laid down his life in Kashmir for the cause of the country. His martyrdom resulted in the abolition of the obnoxious permit system under which no person from the state could visit any other part of the country and vice-versa. His martyrdom also culminated in the collapse of the Sheikh Abdullah Government as well as his arrest in August 1953 and it constituted a success of the historic Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan and Ek Pradhan historic movement in Jammu. It was after his martyrdom that the process of political and constitutional integration got a fillip. It would be only proper to say that Jammu and Kashmir is within India today because of the supreme sacrifice Dr Shyama Prasah Mookerjee made in 1953. On Friday, police raided the residence of the so-called Mahatma Gandhi of Kashmir and the objective was to foil the launch of quit Kashmir movement. Police could not take him into custody because he had gone into hiding to evade his arrest. Commenting on the police raid, spokesman of the JKLF reportedly said: "Yasin Malik will lead a protest march towards Lal Chowk on June 23 against the anti-Kashmiri nefarious designs of RSS and BJP. Similar kind of processions will be taken out in many cities of Azad Kashmir and Islamabad in Pakistan,…Malik has gone into hiding to evade arrest. Early morning today, police searched the residence of Yasin Sahib but failed to arrest him as he has gone in hiding for making Lal Chowk Chalo call a success…When enemies of J&K (are) conspiring to destroy and snatch the Muslim identity from the State, RSS and BJP are planning to declare lakhs of outsiders (Non-Kashmiris) refugees to change the demography of the state. Kashmiris cannot remain silent to this and will fight all these conspiracies". "On June 23, complete shutdown will be observed in Kashmir and people will march towards Lal Chowk and stage a peaceful protest. Malik will himself lead a peaceful procession on the day and for this he has gone in hiding to evade the arrest" he was also quoted as saying. The operation of the police is not yet over. It would be over only on June 23 if the police succeed in defeat comprehensively all the attempts of Yasin Malik and his handful of supporters that day. There are reasons to believe that Director General of Police K Rajinder Kumar would come up to the expectations of the nation by nipping the evil in the bud. |
