| Insecure old horses might resist party's move to induct credible new faces | | BJP's mission 44+ | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, June 27: Buoyed by its overwhelming success in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) High Command is contemplating to introduce fresh faces as party candidates in the forthcoming Legislative Assembly elections to accomplish 'Mission 44+'. The buzzword in the BJP these days is either 'Mission 44+' or infusing 'fresh talent' into the battle field for the Assembly polls. If the sources are to be believed then the BJP has already set into motion the process of finalizing new candidates, who will replace some of the incumbents from key Assembly constituencies of Jammu province. "The focus of party right now is to achieve 'Mission 44+' and to install BJP Government in the state…For realizing this dream, the party think tank wants a complete changeover of the state unit… It believes that introduction of brand new faces possessing sound educational background and clean image would have a positive impact on the electorate," sources maintained. Sources further said that since BJP has indicated that it may give party tickets to fresh faces some of the aspirants have activated themselves to get their names cleared for the mandate and for the purpose they recently knocked the doors of party high command at New Delhi. According to sources, two Jammu based journalists, an astrologer and a senior lawyer who met some of the senior central leaders have been asked by the BJP High Command to get ready for contesting Assembly polls and start their homework viz a viz preparing ground in the constituencies where they have strong foothold. But, the only stumbling block the contenders may face in their path to secure a ticket is state leadership, who are resisting the central leadership's idea of nurturing new talent. "A prominent astrologer, who resides in Jammu city, may get a BJP ticket from either Jammu West or Akhnoor Assembly segments. The two senior journalists have been signaled to pull up their socks for Bishnah and Billawar Assembly segments while the advocate has been given a go ahead for Jammu East constituency," sources said. However, the sources added that the move to give mandate to new faces at the cost of 'old war horses' of state BJP is not going down well within the dedicated party cadre, who are countering the decision by saying that despite serving the party for years together they are being sidelined over those who are not even primary members of the party. The sources further said that the state leadership's preference of bringing in 'fresh blood' may boomerang as it might lead to infighting within party ahead of crucial Assembly polls since some of the senior party leaders have already raised objections to any such move. "The idea mooted by the state leadership is already being opposed in a hush-hush voice by the party veterans as they see it as a neglect of experience in the name of fresh faces which they say will not be tolerated at any cost…Those who have not even a distant connection with the party except that they follow the same ideology as that of the BJP cannot be a yardstick to okay the candidature for the Assembly polls," said sources. |
