Kishtwar, June 27: At a time when the Assembly elections in the state are few months away, infighting within the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir today took an ugly turn when former Congress MP Chowdhary Lal Singh hit out at Jammu and Kashmir President Congress Committee Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and former Union Minister and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, holding both the leaders responsible for poll debacle in just concluded Lok Sabha elections in which Congress party drew complete flak.
While talking to "Early Times" Lal Singh said that infighting between Azad and Soz was the main reason behind Congress party loss in Jammu and Kashmir. Indicating consolidation of the party under his stewardship , Lal Singh said that both Soz group and Azad group will have to face his group, which would be stronger and united. He said that with the blessing of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, he will work towards the revival of Congress party’s in the state and hope that party will bounce back and will show better results in upcoming assembly elections.
" Azad and Soz must take the moral responsibility of poll debacle....", Lal Singh asserted adding in same tone "they must resign to pay way for reorganization of party for better results in Assembly elections" . He said that his aim is to reunite the Congress party across the state. He said that Azad instead of banking on party loyalists; accompanied those people who always fought elections against Congress and Party interest and added that trusting such people blindly became the main reason for Azad's defeat.
Once a staunch loyalist of Azad, Lal Singh also blamed him what he said having snatched party ticket from him.
" He (Azad) played an important role in snatching my party ticket-- neither Azad allowed me to contest nor he managed to win the seat for Congress party" said Lal Singh. He however made it clear that he will continue to work for strengthening the party at all levels. Lal Singh also termed the report of his possibility of joining any other party as bluff and propaganda against him by mischievous elements. A confident looking Lal Singh claimed that he had full 'blessings' of party president Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
