| Ex-Servicemen take to Herbal Farming in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 4: Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) in collaboration with J&K Ex-Services League encouraged the Ex-Servicemen for herbal farming in Jammu. According to press release, the League to identify the areas along the National Highway in the Shivaliks particularly close to 17 Miles, Thandi Khui to raise Herbal Gardens which would ultimately feed the proposed Biotech Park coming up in Samba district where all the facilities from processing, certification to marketing would be provided by the IIIM to boost the economy through income generation activities by the Ex-Servicemen. Two areas were identified one at Kothe Pathania near Thandi Khui where Medicinal Plants like Phalsa, Amla, Behra, Ashwagandha, Stevia etc will be produced and another area in Sapwal village was also identified for laying a Herbal Garden with rain water harvesting in Kandi area. The people showed considerable enthusiasm to take to Herbal Farming. In kandi area the Ex-Servicemen suggested that all the ponds must be revived and catchment areas used for Herbal Farming with Drip Irrigation from the ponds. It will not only ensure water harvesting and ground recharge but will also provide self employment to a large number of inhabitants as there are over thousand ponds between Ravi and Tawi. The Director IIIM promised that he would provide planting material for the initial planting, training, visit to the plantations, technical support and buy back arrangements so that the Ex-Servicemen do not face any difficulty in their new venture. |
