22 SPOs allegedly recruited illegally on Minister's behest

Jammu, July 9: At least 22 Special Police Officers (SPOs ) are allegedly recruited in police department illegally in the hilly district of Jammu on the behest of a Minister in the Omar led coalition Government ,forcing the leader of other major political party to lodge a complaint in the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The complaint in this connection was lodged by the BJP leader Sunil Sharma in district Kishtwar. Leveling allegations against the Minister of Home (MoS) Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo and police, Sharma in his complaint has alleged that to give the benefit to the NC leader in district Kishtwar, some senior police officers on the direction of the Minister recruited about 22 youth of Kishtwar as SPOs.
The exercise was done to give dodge to the people of Doda and Ramban. He said that by doing so, the Minister hit two birds with one stone as 12 persons who were recruited from Doda were infact blue eyed of the Minister and was hailing from his constituency.
Further, he said that the same exercise was done in district Ramban where 10 youth of Kishtwar were recruited.
Going further, he alleged that not only the people of Ramban and Doda were cheated but people of Kishtwar were also duped on behest of Minister.
He said that about 125 police officials, who were locals, were transferred after communal riots from Kishtwar.
Their transfer was made effective after people held protest demonstration but within two months, the same faces again rolled back that too when the code of conduct was in place owing to the Parliamentary elections. Out of 125, about 92 had been rolled back till now and 59 rejoined their respective posts in district Kishtwar.
Meanwhile, number of bids to make contact to the MoS Home Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo for comment went in vain as his Personal Assistant (PA) apprised the reporter that the Minister had gone to the Srinagar to attend a meeting.
IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, when contacted, said that Minister has power to make recruitment. Further he said that he was not apprised the matter by the complainant. Meanwhile, DIG, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban, Ashkoor Wani when contacted said that if the complainant has any appointment order of the SPOs, he must apprise to media and PMO as merely lodging complaint has no worth.
