Jammu, July 9: Scores of youth sustained grievous injuries on Wednesday when police resorted cane charge on protesters who were demonstrating against Fire and Emergency department for postponing their scheduled written exam. The vehicular movement was paralysed in various city roads for many hours in the morning, following the protest demonstration. Officials said that in both regions the students who have not qualified for written exam, were appeared in examination center due to which chaotic scenes were created and the authorities have compelled to postpone the exam. "In Jammu region only 4000 students qualified for written exam out of total 7000 but the appearing strength of students were 6000" a official said and due to paucity of space in the examination center at Kala Kendra, Jammu, authorities decided to postpone the exam.Annoyed over the decision of authorities, the aspirants came on the roads and blocked the busiest Tawi Bridge at Bikram Chowk thus bringing the city traffic to a standstill in entire city. The protestors took to roads even ransacked the barriers erected by the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) which is constructed a Flyover at Bikram Chowk. They alleged 'mal-practice' and 'corruption' in the department and added it is only due to the 'bungling' in the department, the examination has been postponed as the some of the officials wanted to accommodate their 'blue eyed' persons. Some of the protestors hailing from Banihal and Rajouri lamented that they came from their home towns despite the observance of the Holy Ramadan just to appear their examination but it was postponed. "Now they have extra burden on their pocket for their stay in the winter capital as they have come from their home town one or two days prior to avoid being late to their examination",. Despite assurance by Deputy Commissioner Jammu A K Sahu and SSP Jammu Uttam Kumar the protestors continue their demonstration. Following which police had to resort to mild-lathicharge to control the situation which however, got worse and protestors started damaging the shields erected at constructions site. Around 70,000 aspirants from across the state had applied for 140 posts created by the Jammu and Kashmir Fire and Emergency Services for which the recruitment drive was completed in all the districts in the month of January and physical tests were conducted. |
