Locals demand shifting of Sandi firing range

Samba, July 9: Expressing concerns over safety of people, a large number of locals staged a strong protest demonstration at Nonath near National Highway where a number people comprising men and women led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader I D Khajuria.
The locals hailing from over 24 villages Dinga Amb, Pacca Kotha, Chandli, Taki, Rattanpur, Surada, Parmoli, Nichalah, Jatwali, Balooni etc assembl;ed at protest venue and protested against authorities amid slogans like “firing range band karo”. Pertinently this firing range was established in 1992 and it remained operational till 2008 in its full swing, owing to which there reported huge loss of fauna and flora including loss of human lives and damage to houses and fields.The people of these concerned areas had been completely harassed and the voluntarily raised their voice against this Army firing range due to its irreparable loss. “Our children are continuously living in fear and danger especially from shell explosions at this range, said Puran Chand, a local and one of the protestors. Earlier addressing the protestors, I D Khajuria who led the protest said, it had ‘harmed’ to the locals and about 313 serious incidents had happened since the non functioning of range. He said that a list of this loss already had been submitted to the state government but the action in this regard still is nowhere.
“The compensation for the loss had not been paid to the victims still, he said adding, “even though, the committees were formed in the supervision of the concerned Tehsildars to assess the criteria of loss but all is in vain reasons better known to the authorities at the helms of affairs.” Meanwhile ADC Samba and senior police authorities also rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters with assurance that their problem should be taken up to the concerned for the early redressal or appropriate action .
