Rajouri, July 9 : To impart education among old aged people under the centrally sponsored scheme Sakshar Bharat Mission, District Institute of Education and Training has appointed 590 Preraks in 295 gram panchayats in border district Rajouri. As per a handout issued by DIET Rajouri, 295 Panchyats in 9 CD blocks of district Rajouri have 80,000 number of illiterates or neo literates and the literacy rate is about 68.54%. In order to raise this literacy rate and to impart education among the old aged people in rural belts of district, 295 male and 295 female Preraks have been appointed in all the panchayats under the scheme of Department of School Education and Literacy (DSE&L) MHRD, Government of India International Literacy. It aims to further promote and strengthen adult education, specially for women, by extending educational options to those adults who had lost the opportunity of accessing the formal education and crossed the standard age for receiving such education. All such old aged illiterates can now the benefit of learning any type of education including, literacy, basic education (equivalency to formal education), physical and emotional development, practical arts, applied science, sports and recreation. DIET Rajouri Principal, Pardeep Sharma while providing further information said that nine teams headed by HoDs under his supervision were constituted which carried out the process of appointing Preraks.
