| APSCC demands elections to Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 7: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has asked the state government to awake from the slumber and conduct elections for the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees across the state. The committee has said delay in the conduct of elections had undermined importance of Sikh Endowment Act. In a statement issued here, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that administrative inertia has taken toll on the conduct of elections. Raina said that authorities are not serious to GPC conduct elections despite the fact that these elections have not been held over the last 10 years now. "Some officers in the state administration are hand in glove with unscrupulous elements in community. The agenda of these elements is to postpone elections as many times as they can and they have been successful in their endeavour. Under political influence and administrative apathy the elections have been postponed many times," said Raina. The APSCC Chairman demanded that proper management of religious institutions should be given priority by government in order to thwart efforts of unscrupulous elements. He stressed the importance of proper maintenance of the bank accounts and said that regular audits should be made compulsory in religious institutions of the different communities. Raina appealed the community members to participate in elections and choose the deserving candidate, who will be always available to work for the aspirations and needs of community. He said elections are conducted to choose voluntaries or sewaks and postponing of elections several times cannot be justified. |
