| 'No Question' says Rajnath Singh | | Centre shoots down Omar's AFSPA revocation claim | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 7: In a major rub to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah , the Centre has clearly stated that there is no question of revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said in the Parliament. NC Rajya Sabha MP Rattanpuri raising the point during discussion on left-wing terrorism had said if there are recommendations for revocation of AFSPA by Sachar committee and also by a team of interlocutors appointed by the outgoing Government then it is not being done. Responding to it Rajnath Singh said, "while I never said left wing terrorism is less or dangerous to the terrorism in the J&K, if State Government doesn't allow application of some laws- read AFSPA- then the Centre takes decision- and will take it accordingly." It was first clear major rub to the Omar Abdullah Government which has been critical of the Narendra Modi, even from his electioneering days. The BJP Government has made it clear in absolute terms even at the start of its day that it has major nationalistic plans for the state. It has first started debate about the relevance of the Art 370 and then about no on revocation of the AFSPA. Both the issues are Central to the BJP's plan and these are two issues which had been exploited by the National Conference to enjoy the perks of the power. It has deliberately cornered its politics on these two issues to stoke the 'separatist' feelings in the state and project it as the sole guardian of the 'unique identity' of the Kashmir region. BJP had been gradually puncturing this politics of the NC and in a manner it is also cornering the Omar Abdullah, who had been critical of the Modi. It was because of the pressure mounted by the BJP that Omar could not have its way with the outgoing Manmohan Singh Government, despite having personal relation with the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. |
