Early Times Report

Kathua, Oct 6 : Unemployed Kashmiri youth are being imparted with various technical trainings in a bid to explore their livelihood opportunities.12 skill development progra-mmes are running with as many as 100 unemployed youths being part of it. Zaffar Abbaz, the project officer of District Urban Development Agency, on Sunday said that training to youths is being given by professionals in technical courses like welding, electronics, cutting tailoring, fashion designing and on computers, for a period of six months to one year. Around 80 percent people that we have trained are capable of being employed,? said Abbaz. These training programmes are of free of cost and not just boys but even the participation of girls was seen in large numbers. Militancy in the area over the past years had significantly affected state tourism and even the industrial sector. However, the demand for a technically skilled worker in Jammu and Kashmir is on the rise as the industrial sector is growing very fast and through these programmes the trained youths will then be absorbed in government and private companies.
The youths, who had completed six months training, were also given multi-purpose tool kits and even a diploma. "Here we have been taught how to service an air conditioner and how to use tools",said Arun Padha, a trainee.
They can also start their own business and can also get financial aid from financial institutes. The devastating floods in the state last month left hundreds dead and thousands of people homeless.
