Pak relents to truce despite India's cordial handshake

Jammu, Oct 6: The latest truce violation incidences by Pakistan on IB and LoC in different areas of Jammu region and earlier breach of ceasefire in the month of July and August are a clear indication that Pakistan is not willing to maintain peace along borders despite Indian government's efforts to improve bilateral relations and resolution of all contentious issues including Kashmir through dialogue.
Late last night it crossed all limits and resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling in Arnia Sub-Sector of RS Pura Sector which claimed seven civilian lives besides injuring at least 30 others.
After taking over the reins of the country, the Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government had vowed to improve India's relations with neighboring countries particularly Pakistan, however, in return the Pakistani troops have made it a habit of violating the ceasefire ever since the new dispensation took oath of office on May 26.
Pakistani troops are breaching the ceasefire along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) on regular intervals and at will for the past four and a half months which resulted in killing of civilians and BSF personnel as well as migration of locals residing near the border areas in the months of July and August this year.
With the ceasefire violations, instead of going down, have gained momentum, the inhabitants of border areas have left with no other option but to migrate to safer places again in the span of two months.
"It was unprecedented….We have never seen such an attack of mortar shelling and heavy firing in recent times not even during ceasefire violation in the month of August….It was the worst kind of assault on civilian localities… We are shifting to safer areas where we could at least heave a sigh of relief," Vijay Kumar, a border resident said.
"The government should come out with a clear roadmap for the permanent resettlement of the border dwellers living close to IB as Pakistan cannot be trusted anymore and such violations will go on in future also… The heavy firing along borders has already mowed many lives… We want a lasting end to this ordeal," he added.
As Pakistan's habit of creating tension in border areas is not dying down, several people living along IB opined that it is high time that the BJP led NDA government must act tough against the neighbouring country so that loss of human lives and property could be checked.
"Going by the miseries of border residents, the Union Government should now come out of the pre-poll rhetoric on border skirmishes with Pakistan and send a strong message to its counterpart which can come handy in instilling confidence among people," said Rakesh Singh.
