| Modi, Singh not interested, want 'competent CM' for JK | | 'Battered' Omar trying to woo BJP leaders | | Fazal Khan
Srinagar, Oct 6: The "battered" Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah is trying his best to woo the top Bharatiya Janta Party leaders in New Delhi to come for his rescue as recent floods have washed away all his hopes to regain power again. Sources told Early Times that Omar has asked his close lieutenants to approach BJP's top brass and workout some deal with them. "So far BJP leaders have not shown any inclination towards National Conference as most of the leaders in New Delhi believe that party has lost its credibility and popularity in the Valley," said a source. He said that Omar and his close aides have realized that NC is all set to suffer a huge defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections. On the other hand Congress is trying its level best to rope in its old ally People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which has already made inroads across the Valley, including Srinagar city. A top BJP leader from Srinagar revealed that recently the party top brass informed a few local BJP leaders about NC making all possible efforts to enter into some sort of alliance with the party. "NC's plan to have BJP at its back has hit a major road block as the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is not in favour of joining hands with the party," the leader said. He said state government's "failure" to handle the post floods situation in Jammu and Kashmir has disappointed the central government. "The policy of Narendra Modi led government is clear that it believes in development and pro-people initiatives. But the Omar Abdullah led government in JK only believes in rhetoric and making announcements which is not acceptable," the source said. He said that 28-days after the floods hit the Valley the JK government has failed to submit the damage assessment report to the Centre government which has led to the delay in Centre announcing a relief and rehabilitation package for the flood victims. "The laid back approach of the state government is creating an impression that New Delhi is not interested in helping the victims which is not true," the source added. He said that BJP leaders are of the opinion that JK needs a "competent" Chief Minister and the government which always remains ready to help the people. "Omar Abdullah and his party don't fit in the new Kashmir policy formulated by the BJP led NDA government," the source said. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear to his associates that National Conference is an "opportunistic party" and it had betrayed the Vajpayee led government in 2002 by breaking the alliance. "BJP wants a stable government in JK which acts as a facilitator between the people of JK and New Delhi. Centre government wants to ensure that elected representatives from JK should represent the people at every forum rather than secessionist elements calling shots and claiming that they are the true representatives of the people," the source added. He said Omar is making desperate attempts to reach out to the centre through various channels. "Even a few businessmen from JK have approached the BJP leaders in New Delhi and have conveyed to them that NC wants to join hands with them," the source said. Centre's cold response, according to the sources, has disillusioned the "brokers" whom Omar had asked to strike a deal. "They have conveyed to Omar that the chances of they breaking the ice are bleak and NC for at least next six-years should call it off a day." |
