Jammu, Oct 6 : Eid-ul-Azha, Bakr Eid, was today celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu region amid prayers and wishes. Lakhs of animals, including sheep and goats, were sacrificed immediately after Eid prayers. People offered Eid prayers in Eidgah, mosques, Jamia Masjid and open fields.The main congregations were held at Idgah at Residence Road while prayers were also offered at Jamia Masjid at Talab Khatikan, Bhatindi and Malik Market. Hindus greeted their Muslim brothers on the occasion of Eid to mark communal harmony and brotherhood. Bakery shops, eateries, cake shops were decorated and remained occupied with the visitors.Children attired in colourful dresses, asked for 'Eidi' from the elders and relatives.At Malik Market, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Housing and Sports, Raman Bhalla greeted Muslims on the occasion and also prayed for peace and harmony in the state.Eid was also celebrated peacefully in other parts of the region.Tight security arrangements were made across the winter capital for smooth and accident free celebrations.Eid-ul-Azha was today celebrated in entire Doda region with great religious fervour and enthusiasm, to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).The day begun with special prayers in mosques for the peace, progress and well-being of the Ummah and religious processions were also taken out.Eid congregations held at mosques, Eidgahs, and open places in all cities, towns, and villages which included Doda , Bhalessa , Thatri , Kishtwar , Assar , Marmath , Bagwah , Bhagwah and other places. In the Bhaderwah , the main Eid congregation held at the historical Eidgah Bhaderwah where thousands of people offered Eid prayers and flag hosting ceremony of Islamic flag was also held. Speaking on the occasion President Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah Khairat Hussain Frash urged upon the Muslim Community to be united and help all needy people on this occasion. He also criticized state and Central government for failure on all fronts in helping the flood affected people of Kashmir. To provide people a comfortable time during the time of prayer, the Eidgah Committee and Anjuman Islamia Bhadarwah provided water and maintained cleanliness around the Eidgah. Women who offered prayers at home also dressed in colorful suits and cooked delicacies. |
