| All eyes on EC, Administration, politicians consulted | | Uncertainty looms over LA elections | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Even as a team of Election Commission takes stock of the situation in Kashmir, uncertainity looms large over the Legislative Assembly elections. The team of ECI whose members according to credible sources are getting different versions from the administrative officials and from heads of political parties are likely to announce future course of action which after a week. Pertinently term of coalition Government comes to an end on January 19, 2014 and if some senior politicians of Kashmir are to be believed, ECI may delay the elections for a month or two so that relief distribution could be completed until then in flood affected areas. The state , shall , in that eventuality come under Governor's rule. A politician wishing not to be named said Governor's rule would benefit the BJP in Jammu. "We are ready for elections even now,' he said. Other politicians also feel that Governor's rule would prove disastrous for the regional parties. Most of them want timely elections. The ECI team headed by Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi arrived in summer capital Srinagar today and held a meeting with administrative officials of various departments. The ECI team will also meet office bearers of different political parties to take into consideration their views also. According to reports, publication of final electoral rolls had to be deferred from its scheduled date of October 1 to October 15 after it was found that some district electoral officers in south Kashmir division are yet to complete the work because of flood devastation in these areas. Pertinently amid uncertainty over conducting Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir it is being said that incase ECI decides to defer or delay elections, Governor's rule may be imposed after January 19,2015, the date when term of coalition Government comes to an end. |
