| Declare border belt as Backward Area: Bhupinder Singh | | | Early Times Report
Suchetgarh, Oct 9: Prominent Social worker and SSP Retired Bhupinder Singh has demanded backward area status for border belt.
According to press, former police officer today conducted an tour of RS Pura Sector to take stock of the losses suffered by the residents of this area and also interacted with the locals of the area.
During interaction, local said that heavy shelling and firing by Pakistan has once again affected their households, shops/businesses and brought school education to a grinding halt in border areas of the R S Pura sector.
As a result, studies of school-going children have been adversely affected. In the prevailing situation, how can we send our children to schools?
Our children are living in constant fear, which is only spoiling their future," Local said.
"The school going children and their parents they expressed anguish that authorities are not worried about the safety and future of their children. They demanded free hostel facility for their wards at safer places", the locals narrated their miseries to the social worker.
"It has become a routine for us to run for safety whenever there is shelling from across the border.
Our children are not able to attend normal class, thereby severely affecting their studies. How can the government expect our children to compete with children from cities?" said Rohit Chauhan, 26, a resident of Suchetgarh Village.
"How can children continue their studies when shells and bullets are haunting them? People are worried about the education of their children and they can't risk the life of their wards in the prevailing hostile conditions", Singh Said.
Former SSP appealed to state and centre government to provide adequate compensation for inability to cultivate the land beyond border fencing, special recruitment drive in Army/Paramilitary forces/State Police, coverage of Insurance schemes for life, property, crops, livestock and declaration of Border belt as "Backward Area" for the purpose of reservation in education and employment. |
