Early Times Report
jammu, Dec 24: 'Just below the lantern lies the darkness' seems apt for Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Platelets Apheresis machine is being used proper license, which is mandatory as per guidelines of MCI.
Apheresis machine is a device which receives blood removed from a patient or donor's body and separates it into its various components: plasma, platelets, white blood cells and red blood cells. The process of apheresis involves removal of whole blood from a patient or donor. Within an instrument that is essentially designed as a centrifuge, the components of whole blood are separated. One of the separated portions is then withdrawn and the remaining components are re-transfused into the patient or donor.
Well-placed sources told Early Times that the machine was installed half a decade ago, but due to non-seriousness of the authorities, it could not meet its aim. "The machine was installed in 1997, without trained technicians to operate the machine. For period of 12 years machine remained use-less, since there was no technicians to functional the machine", sources said, adding that the hospital sent technicians for training after 12 years of its installation.
"In the year 2009, few technicians were trained, since then the machine was being used for unskilled people", sources informed adding that the machine was declared expired. "In the year 2011 the engineers declared the machine obsolete, which was replaced recently. After reinstallation of machine in the month of July, the concerned department of GMCH has applied for the license", the sources added.
"Till 2011, the machine was working properly and later the backup system developed some problem which was later rectified", said a source adding that yet the AMC team has not reached the GMC which shows that the administration is least bothered for its repairing and higher number of carcinogenic cases in the state.
