Pahari v/s Gujjars: | Paharis refute claims of elected Gujjar leaders accrediting their win to 'Gujjar votes' | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 27: The wordy war between the Pahari speaking and Gujjars still is on and in a latest development the leaders of Pahari Speaking Community have refuted the claims of some members / leaders of Gujjar Community that all the five Gujjar candidates elected from Pir Panjal region registered their victories only due to Gujjar votes. In a joint statement Shahbaz Khan, chairman JK Pahari People Movement, Vijay Kochar, provincial general secretary and MA Sagar, Provincial President stated said that members of Pahari speaking community have played a major role in the victory of Gujjar candidates which is evident from the data of votes polled in their favour. "During 2008 five candidates out of seven Assembly seats from Pir Panjal region were declared winner from Pahari community while this time Paharis voted in favour of five candidates from Gujjar community and made them successful, they said. "Some vested interests in the Gujjar community are trying to create a wedge between Gujjars and Paharis by issuing such statements. Had the Paharis not voted in favour of Gujjar candidates their victory would have not been assured" said Shahbaz Khan. Giving statistics the Pahari leaders stated that Rajouri segment has more than 70% Pahari electorates, in Nowshera constituency Paharis dominate with 83%, 75 % Paharis are in Kalakot constituency (Rajouri district), Mendhar (Poonch) segment has 70% Paharis while in Surankote has 73% Paharis votes (Poonch) "Out of about 36000 Gujjar votes in Rajouri constituency Ch Talib Hussain got about 17000 votes while winning candidate Ch Qamar got about 8000 votes and rest were shared by other Gujjar candidates. If out of total 26954 votes (Ch Qamar, PDP winning candidate) Ch Qamar got 8000 Gujjar votes then who made him winner? They were Pahari voters" said Shahbaz Khan. Same was the case in Mendhar constituency said Shabaz Khan and added out of 81130 votes about 27000 belong to Gujjar community and out of which about 19000 were polled. "Gujjar candidate Javed Rana got 31000 votes and declared winner. Who was behind his victory certainly the Pasharis" said These Pahari leaders. "In Surankot , Kalakot and Darhal constituencies situations are not different," said Shahbaz Khan adding that Gujjar candidates have admitted that Paharis have played a major role in their victories. Pahari leaders said that Vibodh Gupta, BJP state vice president and Abdul Qayoom Dar, PDP Rajouri district head have played a vital role in bringing together on one single platform the people from both the communities (Paharis and Gujjars, Bakerwals). 'Those claiming that Gujjar candidates have won their seats due to community votes, are hurting the sentiments of the Paharis and other communities, who have voted in favour of Gujjar candidates rising over caste , creed color and language and such forces are dividing both the communities for their vested interests" said chairman and others executive members of JKPPM. Speakers also have appealed to the members of both the community to defeat the cause of such forces as both the communities share same culture and rituals etc. |
