Want person with clean image as JK unit president | New BJP legislators oppose 'tainted' Khajuria | | Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: Amid speculations that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) would shuffle its Jammu and Kashmir unit, former MLA Ashok Khajuria, who is in the race for party president, is facing stiff opposition from the newly elected BJP legislators. Sources told Early Times that Khajuria is trying hard to get the post of the state president as the BJP is likely to form the next government in the state. He (Khajuria) may lose the race as his "dubious role" during the past six years and the outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah alleging that he (Khajuria) used to approach him for seeking personal favours has put his credibility at stake. The newly elected BJP legislators, who won 25 seats in the recent assembly polls and helped party to emerge as second largest party for the first time in the history of JK, are of the opinion that "tainted" Khajuria should be dropped and someone with a clean image be handed over the reins of the party in the state. The allegations against him (Khajuria) of taking benefits from governments are not new. Even Omar Abdullah, had publically accused Khajuria of taking favours from him. Soon after Omar leveled serious allegations against Khajuria, the BJP leader threatened to move court and sue the then Chief Minister but he failed to take any legal action against Omar to prove his innocence. There were many incidents when Khajuria was accused of conspiring against his own party colleagues by giving wrong feedback to party high command. Sources revealed that Ashok Khajuria was denied party ticket in recently concluded assembly election on the basis of allegations and controversies surrounding him but now he is trying hard to gain his lost ground in the state politics and is making all possible efforts to take coveted post of party president in Jammu and Kashmir. |
