The feedback is need to be provided among the farmers before sowing crops, as Agriculture Department, collecting samples of soil either at the time of cultivation of rabbi or kharif crops.
Source in the department informed Early Times that Agriculture Department has been doing fruitless exercise for many years. "Agriculture Employees (Rehbar-e-Zarat) collecting the soil samples from different districts of region but, not providing the feedback (report regarding fertility of land from where samples are being collected)", he said. They further said, "All the reports of soil testing are lying in the office of Agricultural Extensional officers (AEO) of Agriculture Department but it is not being distributed timely among the formers, it shows lackadaisical approaches of department toward the agriculture sector in state." It is pertinent to mention here that increase in productivity of food grain, the state government has established a laboratory in each district and gradually makes efforts to overcome the shortage of food grain but the department has failed to provide benefits of soil testing laboratory to the farmers.
A farmer, Sham Choudhary of village Rattian, RS Pura said that before the cultivation of crops the agriculture department visits to collect the sample of soils, but reports remain in department's files.
"They visit villages to collect the samples promising us to provide the report in time, but the promises remain unmet always", he said, adding that the STLs prove futile and burden on state exchequer, if it is not meeting its target. "When we ask the department about the reports, the officials say reports is not finalized or not came in from the laboratories", he said.
