Irked over PDD's aloof attitude, locals shift damaged transformer for repairs on their own | Peoples Conference Chairman, urged to personally interfere into matter | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 27: Putting a question mark on the working of Power Development Department (PDD), locals of Dawood Colony of Muqam-e-Shahewali village of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday collected money and took the damaged transformer of the locality to workshop on their own for its repairs. Locals urged JK Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone and MLA Kupwara to personally interfere into the matter. "When none from the PDD turned up till 2 pm, we collected Rs 50 per household and took the damaged transformer to workshop," irked locals of Dawood Colony said. "We were shocked by the reply from officials that there is no government at present and whatever you have to do, please do it on their own," they said, questioning for what they pay monthly bills which s include electricity duty to the officials. "In last four months, the transformer of locality has got damaged on six occasions, leaving over 100 families under darkness in harshest winter, they said and lamented, "we have been repeatedly demanding upgradation of transformer as it gets damaged every now and then." "But the things yet have not been changed on the ground, they said. Agitated over callous approach of the concerned department, the locals said the concerned PDD authorities virtually have failed to rectify the damaged transformer despite repeated pleas. "It is a routine now. We have been repeatedly demanding upgradation of the transformer because it is overloaded but there is not even a whisper by the officials which speaks volumes about the lack of concern to our woes," they said. The residents have appealed JK Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone and its MLA Kupwara Bashir Ahmad Dar to personally interfere into the matter so as to see installation of fresh transformer in the area to prevent what they said recurring troubles. At the same time they also have urged the Chief Engineer PDD to intervene in this matter. |
