Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 27: 24 more deaths in Jammu, four in Kashmir due to floods
Jammu and Kashmir government will undertake all measures and create an enabling environment for survival, growth and development of children in the state, a senior official said here today.
"The state government will undertake all measures and create an enabling environment for survival, development, growth and protection of all children, so that every child can realise his or her inherent potential," M S Rather, Secretary, Social Welfare Department, said.
He said the state will soon have a "child policy" that would ensure that the fundamental rights of the children guaranteed under the constitution of the state are taken care off.
"A state level consultation workshop was organised by the department in collaboration with 'Save the Children' to finalise the state child policy, which provides comprehensive insights into the current needs of children in the state," Rather said.
The "State Child Policy and Plan of Action 2014" strives to secure all the children of the state the right to happy childhood as envisaged under the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
Mission Project Director, ICDS, G N Itoo, said that, "It is very encouraging that not only the draft policy has been framed but suggestive framework in the shape of State Plan of Action for Children has also been developed."
The initiative would guide the government to formulate actions to the specific needs of the children in the state, he said, adding that the state would be having draft Disaster Contingency Plan for Children as well.
