12/27/2014 11:51:10 PM
Gurdeep Singh Sasan

Guru Gobind Singh Ji
figures in the world
history as a great leader of men, epitome of royal courage, rising spirit, (Chardhi Kala), Patriotism, Sacrifice, Confrontation with tyranny, a versatile genius of highest order, a God-man and a mystic par excellence, a powerful poet and patron, a unique religious law giver and champion of down trodden, relentless defender of faith and above all, a sacrificing martyr for the cause of suffering and persecuted humanity. In fact it is impossible to encompass and delineate in words all the facts of his highly charismatic and remarkable personality. Guru Ji created his classless a Casteless Khalsa mostly from the stuff which was discarded as downtrodden and depressed and gave us the message and practical lesson to live secular and democratic life. He proudly said "I shall create scholars out of them, teach them the method of discoursing on special religious lores, shall transform them into a crown (Sardar) all of men, only then I shall be worthy of myself."
"Sewa Lakh Se ek Laraun ; Chirian to (n) main baaj taraun ; Tabhe e Govind Singh naam Kahaun"
"Unless I raise one to stand against many, cause sparrow spurn the hawk and inspire jackals to kill lions, I shall not deserve to be called Gobind Singh".
Guru Ji uplifted and filled with fervor and fighting spirit such people who had been turned into mere clods of clay during many centuries of oppression, and who had never dreamed of holding weapons.
The Hindu Nation was a divided light, with various sects warring (showing enmity) with one another. Their existence was like a flickering light of dying lamp. Guru Ji placed the love of nationalism, a lamp wick oiled by not only sacrificing his own life for the benefit of other but also gave everything he had, all his wealth, his four children his father, his mother, his five beloved singhs, all his might and brain powers for the nation. All his comforts and peace, blood of his body and his life he sacrificed for his countrymen. Was there anything that he hid from us? No, nothing. That is why we call him the greatest hermit of India because his life and sacrifices were only for his nation. Guruji infact came to show that the body of happiness and peace is prepared with the yeast of sacrifice and pain. When his four sons sacrificed their lives for the honour of their country, Guru Ji was proud of them and proclaimed.
"In patran ke sis per var diya sut char
Char muye to kya hua jeevat kai hazar"
"For the family of my Khalsa I have sacrificed my four sons so that if four are dead, when thousands more are alive" is there any match in the history of world which can be compared to such supreme and unlique sacrifice?
Swami Vivekanand a well authority on Vedanta, honourably call Guru Gobind Singh "the most glorious hero of our race" (Vol. IIIP 366) After studying super natural Amrit ceremony of Guru Govind Singh Swami was so much impressed that wherever he gave any speech or wrote a letter, he always used to greetings - "Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh"
Guru Govind Singh was not enemy of any religion but he was definitely against tyrants who were oppressing people in the grab of religion. Guru Ji was a noble soul who considered whole humanity to be absolutely one.
"Hindu Turk Kou Rafzi Iman Safi, Manas Ki Jaat Sabhe Ekai Paichanbo"
(Hindu, Turk-Listen ye all recognize them all only one caste of brotherhood)
Pir Bhikham Shah Darvesh when came to Patna with his followers to test the divine powers of Infant to satisfy their inquisitiveness, he took hold of two goblets one representing Muslim faith and the other representing Hindu. A system was evolved that a Baba has a special prophet sent by God and for whom none was high or low and both Hindus and Muslims were equalent, then he would put his hands simultaneously on both the goblets with this predetermined equation, Pir placed the goblets in front of Child Gobind. The infant baby with a cute smile placed both his hands together on the two goblets and thus satisfied everybody's, authority that he was a special prophet sent by God for leading the whole humanity.
Anyone who was indifferent to the bounds of religion and religious groups joined as the devotee and followers of Guru Ji. Also those Individuals who were supporters of justice and in dual by rights, who hated the division of caste and dividing walls of high and low, rich and poor, and for whom religion was a symbol of impartial and selfless service of humanity, came happily under the banner of Guru Gobind Ji. Among such devotees of the Guru were (BUDHU SHAH) (Badrudin) who felt proud to sacrifice his three sons, brother and hundreds of his relatives in Bhawani Sahib Battle. Like Budhu Shah, two Muslim brothers Nabi Khan and Gani Khan helped Guru ji in Machiwara, safety taking him away seated in Palki from the reach of Mughal Army. Muslim Nawab who was Gurus devout welcomed the Guru in Raikot and also treated and served him as a honourable guest.
Guru Ji's mission was religious above all. He said himself as restorer of Dharma which he meant was true religion.
i) The divine Guru sent me for righteousness sake, on this account I have come into the world to extend the faith everywhere and the seize and destroy evil and sinful. There is no difference between Guru and Khalsa, the Khalsa and the Guru are same".
Historian and author J.V. Vaswami in his book "THE SIKH Sanctuary" writes about Guru Gobind Singh as under :-
Guru Sahib's personality is like rainbow. He possessed sweat honeyed humanity of Guru Nanak ; lamb like virtue of Jesus Christ, Spiritual wisdom of Gautam Budha ; bubbling energy of Hazarat Mohammad, Sunkissed glory of Lord Krishna abiding discipline of Lord Rama and more so ; royal glamour of emperors."
Guru Gobind Singh by administering Amrit (Nector) infused the spirit of Chardi-Kala (dynamic power rising spirit) which refuses to be crushed by any adversary :
Nanak Naam Chardhi Kala
Tere Bhane Sarbat the Bhala
(Prayers of Guru Nanak's followers and with his grace good of all prevails)
Lady Dorothy Field in her book "Religion of Sikh" (1914 Edition) writes "The religion is also one which showed appeal to the accidental (Western) mind. It is essentially a practical religion. If judged form the pragmatical stand point is some quarters, it would rank almost first in the world"
The Guru's philosophy is of uniting the whole mankind in a single thread of love and universe brotherhood and the present time demands that such way of life should spread in the whole world.
"Ek Pita Ekas Ke Hum Barik
Tu Mera - Gur haee.
(The one lord is the father of us all and we are the children of lord)
Guru Nanak Dev Ji fought against social evils atrocities committed against the women and said "So Kayon Manda Akhiye jit (o) Janme Rajaan".
Why call her bad who gives, birth to great kings".
Guru Govind Singh forbade the entry of the killers of new born daughter into Khalsa Panth. Since such people as had become habitual killers of their daughters were like to continue the evil practice even after joining the Khalsa, they were excluded from the ranks of the Khalsa. The Sikhs were asked not to deal and intermarry with such people.
Daulat Rai an Arya Samajist while discussing the inimitable character of Guru Gobind Singh. Says with a sense of pride in praising his matchless hero :
The Emperors of Germany, Austria and Russia despite having huge armies with them surrendered unabashed before Napoleon. And so did Muslims of Egypt. A brave General like cronje despite having guns and four thousand Boer fighters with him, laid down arms before the Britishj Army. But look at the unparalleled courage displayed by Guru Govind Singh. He had only forty Sikhs with him in a dilapidated abode structure at Chamkaur surrounded by the imperial hordes ---- Guru Gobind Singh refused to buckle under……
He was the great saviour, soldier who emancipated the long enslaved Hindu Nation from the Mughal tyranny. He was the saint who created a casteless free society in India after centuries of internal fraction and inequity.
Let our homage to Guru Ji be to pledged to redouble our efforts of lighting up the right of love, kindness and impartial affection and strengthen the pillars of work worship and charity, sharing and caring, service and meditation but not least and let's pledge to eradicate the menance of female foeticide and other social evils prevailing in the society.
The author is a socio-political reformist.
