Don't get upset over ED questioning Majithia: Bajwa to Sukhbir | | | Agencies CHANDIGARH, Dec 27: Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa today said Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal should not get upset over the questioning of his brother-in-law and the revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Rs 6000 cr synthetic drug scam. "It is understandable that you have to defend your brother-in-law publicly but then you also happen to be the Deputy Chief Minister and even before the investigation has reached any conclusion, you have already given him clean chit. "Your statements have the potential to influence the course of investigation as your wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal is a minister in the cabinet headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is for this reason that I have been demanding that the entire racket should be probed by CBI," he said. Bajwa referred to the statement of Badal whereby he had said the Punjab police had done a commendable job by arresting notorious smuggler Jagdish Bhola and that he had spilled out Majithia's name only months after his arrest and that too before the media. He said this was not the issue as the persons who had been arrested later in the case had been known to be in Mr Majithia's proximity. Moreover, no investigating agency would summon such a powerful person without finding at least some substance about the allegations even if coming from some accused, he said. He reminded Sukhbir Badal that earlier, the tourism minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur had submitted his resignation as it was the name of his son Damanbir Singh that had cropped up in the same case. Now, Mr Majithia was being questioned in the same case. How come he did not defend Mr Phillaur at that time although it was directly his name that had come up, he asked. Bajwa reiterated that the investigation in drug smuggling in the state be handed over to the central agency as ED was going into only money laundering issue. |
