Jammu, Jan 11: Focusing on folk and scientific names of neighbourhood woody and non-woody flora, 327th Tree Talk was hosted in the Botanical Garden of Botany Department Jammu University where plant experts Prof Yashpal, Dr Harish Dutt, Amber Srivastava and Tree Talk crusader O P Vidyarthi shared tree related inputs with postgraduate students of Botany. HoD Botany Prof Yashpal highlighted unique mycological associations with roots of trees like Shyonaka ,Devdar ,Sahijana and reflected that several medecinal plants owe production of secondary metabolites to fungal associations whether ectotrophic or endotrophic and if we want healthy forests ,we need to take care of soils and maintain microbial associations. Dr Harish Dutt shared that Botanical garden houses more than 500 plant taxa and 800 plant specimens spread over an area of four hactares ,many plants like Olea glandulifera ,Messua ferrea , Madhuca latifolia ,Ephedra foliata , Tithonia diversifolia ,Pimenta dioica ,Tetrapanax papyrifer are exclusive to the garden. M.Sc. Botany students participated in the garden walk and taxonomical tree talk to know dogri plant names like Guhaadad ,Jajooli ,Aakhre ,Kakoha ,Garna ,Banjeeri ,Maloongad , Kali suhali ,Sansaru ,Sohanjana ,Marinjhan ,Maghaan ,Banaah seen growing in the garden.Priyanka Walli ,Tasir ,Abhishek Dutta ,Priya Sharma also shared inputs on distribution and folk uses of native trees like Babiding ,Kaudi Karaid ,Goon ,Marnu ,Lakshmi taru ,Rajain ,Sita Ashok ,Meddasak and Thubb. |
