Notwithstanding separatists threats, Centre to go with granting citizenship rights to West Pak Refugees | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 11: Pro-Pakistani separatist leadership and National Conference have ganged-up to oppose citizenship rights for the West Pakistani refugees but the Union Government has decided to go with its proposal to solve six decades long genuine and human problems of these poor people. Credible sources said that Union Government has already written a letter to different central agencies to formulate a policy how to grant citizenship rights to West Pakistani Refugees (WPRs). The Union Government has also decided that instead of depending upon state government, Centre would take initiative on its own to make these people as citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. Credible sources said that there was a feeling among central leadership of the BJP that Governor rule was the best opportunity to solve this human problem once for all. "Joint Parliament Committee (JPC) has already recommended citizenship rights for West Pakistani Refugees so there would be no problem in getting this issue solved with the consent of all political parties of the country in the Lok Sabha and in the Rajya Sabha", a senior BJP leader, who doesn't want to be quoted said, adding, "JPC is comprised of all political parties so there would be national consensus on this issue". A group within the BJP is seriously thinking to issue an official order during Governor rule to grant citizenship right to West Pakistan and get the order approved by the Parliament. "Nation is united on solve human issue of West Pakistani Refugees so there would no taker of separatists and other Kashmir centric parties' malicious propaganda", the BJP leader said. Pertinent to mention here that National Conference has joined with separatist and other pro-Pakistan groups to oppose citizenship rights to West Pakistani Refugees who have been struggling to get basic rights since 1947. Terming the recommendations of the JPC for settling the West Pakistan refugees permanently in the J&K as anti-state, general secretary National Conference Ali Mohammad Sagar had alleged that said such recommendations are aimed at changing the demography of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that recommendations of JPC were unacceptable and was a wicked conspiracy to tamper with the special status of Jammu And Kashmir State. He said conspiracies like these were even hatched in 2008, when there were attempts to transfer land to shrine board, which was a dangerous attempt to fiddle with special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Radical leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq and other separatist leaders are already opposing restoring basic rights to the West Pakistani refugees. |
